Information Security Awareness and Culture – What’s The Point?

May 20 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

This month’s presentation will describe why information security awareness raising and the creation of a positive and progressive information security culture is an important component in information security risk management.

The presentation will include discussion of the importance of people-focused engagement in any infosec endeavour, whether that is of a technical, managerial or systems design nature. The focus of this session is on sharing practical knowledge with and between attendees.

About the presenter: Mark Carey-Smith
Mark has been an information security professional for approximately 20 years. He has worked in operational and architectural infosec roles, lecturing at a university level, and the completion of a PhD, examining how organisations manage their information security. Mark’s current focus is governance, risk and compliance with a particular interest in information security education and culture. Mark holds an MIT and a PhD from the Queensland University of Technology.

Mark’s philosophy is that information security should be an enabler of business and is fascinated with the behavioural antecedents of the decisions that people make when they use, or abuse, information.

Drinks and pizza will be provided.
