The World’s Biggest Garage Sale Meetup World Environment Day Creating A Better Future

June 20 @ 5:30 am - 7:30 pm

Welcome to our very special Circular Economy Meetup event for June! This month we are celebrating World Environment Day as a part of Brisbane City Council’s community celebrations. During this event we will explore how to be a part of the solution and create a better future for our planet and all the life living on this planet.

We have some amazing speakers lined up to present on different sides of the spectrum when it comes to waste and consumption.

If you are interested in sustainable fashion you have no doubt heard of local fashion legend Jane Milburn, founder of Textile Beat. Jane will present her thoughts on slow fashion and how we can change our consumption habits to support the environment rather than damage it further.

Our next speaker is Jenny Brown, Managing director of Environex. Environex is an Australian owned and operated company dedicated to providing innovative and proven polymer product solutions to national and international clients. Recognising that worldwide environmental sustainability is a major issue Environex create products are 100% recyclable.

Speaker Bios:

JANE MILBURN
FOUNDER, TEXTILE BEAT
In an era dominated by passive consumption of cheap and synthetic fashion, Jane Milburn presents a compelling case for why we need to change the way we dress to live lightly on Earth through everyday practice. As the author of Slow Clothing: finding meaning in what we wear, Jane is a sustainability consultant presenting talks and workshops that focus on natural fibres and consider clothing in a permaculture and planetary health context. Earlier, Jane trained as an agricultural scientist, worked as a rural communicator and graduated from the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation. She established Textile Beat in 2013.

JENNY BROWN
MANAGING DIRECTOR, ENVORINEX
Jenny Brown is the Managing Director of Envorinex and was born and raised in regional NSW on a wheat and sheep farm where she learnt the valuable trades of fencing, ploughing, drenching sheep, milking cows and racing old cars around the farm paddocks with her brother’s, while her sisters were helping in the house, much to her mother’s dismay.

Jenny’s career has been extremely varied from picking grapes while travelling around Australia with two toddlers, co-owner of a fencing business, the building industry, with Shell Australia, Mitsubishi, Sydney shipping industry, transport industry, hydraulic and pneumatic industry, international timber company in Brisbane and finally the plastics industry since 2003. Her career within the plastics manufacturing industry has had Jenny travelling to some wonderful places running building programs to install both building boards and septic systems for indigenous persons in remote Northern Australia and Western Australia along with Papua New Guinea in some very unfavourable situations.

In 2009 Jenny began her crusade to tackle the recycling of difficult plastics which no body was dealing with. In May 2019 Jenny was one of five women to win the inaugural SheEO Venturers in Australia.
