RiverPitch seeks fresh, investment-ready startups

Brisbane, April 14: RiverPitch, Australia’s leading bi-annual pitching event for startups, has raised the curtain on its 9th edition with applications open today.

The number of participants are expected to triple in size compared with the previous event last year.

RiverPitch, organised by technology startup hub River City Labs, will see up to seven investment-ready companies from all over Australia spruik their wares next month.

Successful candidates could receive up to $1.5 million in funding.

RiverPitch brings together pre-screened investors and entrepreneurs in a social environment where developed ideas can be pitched.

The invite-only event will match investment-ready ideas (and teams) with actual investors to help get their ideas funded.

RiverPitch is supported by a community of investors formed to help the early stage and startup sector access funding. RiverPitch aims to provide a different approach to capital funding and de-formalise the search for the next investment.

The event has experienced significant interest and growth over the past few years since its inception in 2012, River City Labs general manager Josh Anthony said.

Mr Anthony expects attendee numbers to hit 200 people or triple in size over the previous event after receiving strong backing from investors and other VIPs.

“We’ve seen a tremendous uplift in interest for RiverPitch from startups and investors all over the country.

“This is a clear testament that RiverPitch plays a pivotal role in supporting the startup ecosystem both in Queensland and now at a national level.

“RiverPitch serves as an ideal platform for Australia’s startup stars of tomorrow,” Mr Anthony said.

Steve Baxter, River City Labs and RiverPitch founder, and star of Channel Ten’s Shark Tank series, encouraged startups to throw their hat into the ring.

RiverPitch will take place on May 25, 2016 in Brisbane. Applications close on April 29.
